So in the below guide we will show you how to update your iPhone 4 to 5.1 with preserving the above unlockable basebands.  @nhylle If you updated once without preserving your baseband, there unfortunately is no way to ever go back to the previous baseband.

Shaggy132 March 13, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Guys it works with 5.1 by preserving the baseband using latest version of redsn0w.

Hi all everyone who has baseband 4.11 and higher there is no way to downgrade the baseband so gevey sim will not work exept if you have shsh 4.3.5 saved then there is a way to downgrade th baseband
any version will work whit gevey sim also 5.1 if you have a baseband 4.10 and lower

Reply

cewhip March 17, 2012 at 1:31 am

@jaytec  I have a 4.35 SHSH blob saved from tiny umbrella, but will it still allow A4 devices to downgrade the baseband or is there no hope

Reply

jaytec March 17, 2012 at 3:41 am

@cewhip @jaytec yes you just need to use the original firmware using tinyumberella and the baseband Will downgrade to 4.10

Reply

jaytec March 17, 2012 at 3:43 am

Also i Forget before that you must erase your iTune and install iTune 10.4 or thé baseband Will not downgrade

Thank you

Reply

complus March 25, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Keep it as it is else you will need to buy another unlocked phone.  The only option right now is to iOS 5.1 and Gevey doesn’t work on it, even if you preserve baseband.  Stupid Apple has stopped letting users upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 (on which Gevey works).

Hello i just wanted to comment that gevey sim does work with 5.1 i have an iphone 4(obviously) with 5.1 firmware and 2.10.04 baseband and it does work you just have to give it a try. I tried like 10 times for it to work.  btw you have to have a preserve baseband if not dont even try.

complus March 25, 2012 at 3:42 pm

@JoseRB I spent two days. Baseband 4.10.01.  Gevey doesn’t work.

@JoseRB Currently trying it out, but somehow when trying to do the all dial 112 thing it reloads to activation failed part.

I tired this and it works! My baseband is 2.10.04. The only thing is that redsnow does not hackative it so you will need a at&t sim
to activate the iPhone but other than that everything works! Thanks

I’ve an iphone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and preserved baseband 04.10.01 (using gevey sim)… I was wondering when updating to 5.1 if I need a jailbreak for 5.1 as well because I don’t have a AT&T card or something. Can I still use my phone after a simple unlock?

Reply

complus March 25, 2012 at 3:41 pm

NO NO NO NO.  If you have iOS 5.0.1 working fine with Gevey, don’t do anything.  There is nothing in iOS 5.1 that you can’t live without.  Gevey does not work on iOS 5.1 even if you have baseband 4.10.01.

Sam007 April 2, 2012 at 11:51 pm

@complus yes it does, i unlokced like 3 iphone just this morning , ios 5.1 baseband 04.10.01

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3, Baseband 4.10.01. Unlocked using Gevey Ultra. Fell into the trap and upgraded to iOS 5.1 Baseband Preserved. Gevey doesn’t work now.  Tried everything including 112 method like 50 times.  Gevey doesn’t have software for iOS 5.1 yet and no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.  If you have your phone working fine with Gevey on iOS 4.3, stay with it.  Don’t waste your time until a confirm method appears.  There is nothing in iOS 5.1 that you really really need. Same old crap.  Apple upgrades these systems to block jailbreakers.

Just wanted to let you know that first I tried to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 (for which Gevey has confirmed unlock on baseband 4.10.01).  The upgrade was not successful and screwed up my phone.  It through some error in the middle and stuck in the recovery mode loop.  I tried every method available to fix recovery with no help.  Finally I was able to get out of the recovery using Redsn0w.  But it appeared that the damage was already done.  The failed update was able to change some files. Cydia appears to read as if there was no longer iOS 4.3 installed on it and Gevey also didn’t work (spent 6 hours on it).  Finally, I had to update to iOS 5.1. But now my phone service won’t work because I can’t unlock it.  It was working like a charm on iOS 4.3 with Gevey.  I was stupid to fall for this desire to use iOS 5.0.1 (which is no longer is a possibility because in order to install it you need to update iTunes and they have done something in iTunes not to allow iOS 5.0.1 anymore.

Long story short.  If you have an unlocked iPhone 4, stay with it no matter what iOS it has.  I had to immediately buy a factory unlocked phone after this fiasco.  I am poorer by $800 now.

I should have proof read it before posting :-)

complus March 25, 2012 at 3:39 pm

Don’t fall for this story.  This is all wrong.  This method works on iOS 5.0.1 (which you no longer can upgrade to, too late Apple has stopped upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 earlier this month… trust me…. don’t try it).  This method won’t work if you upgrade to iOS 5.1 baseband preserved.  Gevey does not have software for iOS 5.1 yet (I heard they were working on it).

@complus what are you talking about i did it and con confirm 100% it works

Reply

complus March 25, 2012 at 8:03 pm

You seem to be the only person who have done it successfully (based on my extensive Internet search).  I have tied it more than 70 times in the last three days with no luck. I went to a professional iPhone unlocker shop, even they couldn’t do it.  One thing I can confirm is that the above video is not using iOS 5.1 because on iOS 5.1, you never get that one bar (it is always “No Service”) as shown in the video for unlocked phone.

Mine:  iPhone 4, iOS 5.1, 4.10.01, Gevey Ultra.  Was unlocked on the same baseband prior to I upgraded to iOS 5.1 (preserved BB).  Phone works fine otherwise and works ok when I put AT&T SIM.

My advise to people, don’t fall into this trap of iOS 5.1.  If your phone is unlocked on iOS 5.0.1 or less, keep it that way until a foolproof method comes up.

Reply

Lobo Lansky March 25, 2012 at 8:49 pm

@complus ok your right on that one bar thing. i did it the old way by just dialing 112 then doing the airplane mode trick then it comes up and connects. I tried it several times and it works for me. Takes a couple of tries but i figured it out. I have official gevey ultra purchased from applenberry.

Reply

yanethm June 7, 2012 at 8:44 am

@complus Additionally, applenberry  states that it carries 5.1on Gevey ultra sim.
“ApplenBerry Gevey Ultra works for iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1 with preserve baseband up to 4.10.01. Currently supports manual method only.” taken from their site.

@suruze Press Shift then click on the Restore button in iTunes.  It will open up a file select dialog box. Select custom ipsw.  on iOS 5.1, there is no untethered jailbrake.  On a side note, if you don’t know all these things, you should not try to do whatever you are trying to do.  You may end up making your phone unusable.

@patrick1023 that’s probably because it is a tethered jailbreak. This means that you always have to boot your Device with redsn0w. Then you don’t have those problems..
