Sparrow Plus Lets You Use Sparrow App As Default Email Client [Jailbreak Tweak]

by on July 21, 2012

While it seems that Apple is going after enterprise market to gain additional Smartphone market share, their e-mail solutions are far from perfect. Truth is that their stock e-mail application on the iOS is bland to say the least. Sparrow is the first true e-mail application that provides all the necessary features that a stock email application should, and then more.  While Sparrow has its fare share of limitations, it still can be considered as one of the few true contenders for the stock Apple e-mail client.

Sparrow

Sparrow is basically a Gmail third party email- client that offers a lot more than the stock Apple email client. The interface is well thought out provides a fluid user experience.  It captures the essence of the best Gmail features and brings them to you on the iOS, with features such as threaded email view, support for labels , and even Google +.  Sparrow takes full advantage of the superior iOS swiping interface and provides a very fast and fluid e-mail experience.

The biggest drawbacks that were limiting Sparrow from truly standing out as a perfect replacement for the stock Apple iPhone email app was the lack of push notifications, which is infact a must have for a email client, and the inability to be set as the default email application on the iOS 5.

But that has been solved thanks to the release of Sparrow plus jailbreak tweak. That is why we can always count on the jailbreak community to circumvent restrictive limitations. Sparrow Plus jailbreak tweak would let you set sparrow as your default email client as well as let you receive push notifications. While there are still a few minor bugs left to make it 100%, they are sure to be addressed in future updates.

Download Sparrow app from the Appstore for $2.99 and then grab Sparrow plus for free from Cydia under the BigBoss Repo to try this out yourself.
