How to use iMessage on iPhone. One of the great features of iOS 5 is Apple’s iMessage service. iMessage works through the existing Message app, delivering real-time messages that can include photos and videos. It is necessary that the other person must also have an iDevice with the iOS 5 in order to use the iMessage.
It allows you to send free text messages via Wi-Fi or 3G from iPhone, iPoad Touch and iPad. Messaging has been made a lot easier and simpler with the iMessages service. iMessage is can be turned on/off in “Settings” of your iDevice. It also allows you to keep a track on your messages through delivery reports and option read recipients, see when somebody’s typing.
How to use iMessage on iPhone:
- Turn on iMessages by entering the settings app on your iDevice.
- If you wish to enable read receipts you can also do that in the Message settings.
- To send a message with iMessage, simply text any friend with an enabled iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad and the iPhone will automatically use iMessage to deliver your text. If the recipient is not using an iMessage enabled device, a standard SMS/MMS message will be sent. So if any message can’t be sent via iMessage, it will be sent automatically through the SMS service.
- Sms messages are displayed in green color while the iMessages are displayed in blue color
Have fun messaging your friends and family with this awesome free service for the iOS 5.

There is no option to toggle between iMessage or normal message when you already activate iMessage, thus when your intended recipient do not have data at their location, you could not send a normal message instead to reach them. That sucks
